We stayed here for 5 nights. Firstly, let me say that the service and location of the hotel was excellent. The rooms and public areas were clean and the staff very friendly and eager to assist. However, the rest of the hotel is frustrating to say the least. We originally upgraded our room to a premium room, expecting a bath. When we checked in, we were told it was a coin flip on whether the rooms had a bath or what the staff called a nook. In our case, we were given the nook and couldn't get a room with a bath. Very disappointing, as no soaking in a tub after a long day walking around and sightseeing. To make it worse, the spa was found to be open only 2 days a week, so no massaging those tired legs and feet either. After entering our room the nook turned out to be a cut out at the back of the room with shelves on the wall, a coffee table, tv and what can only be described as a bench seat with no back, up against the walls. You could not hang out there, as 1, there was no light in there, meaning it was always dark, and 2, there was no back rest, just the wall. A sofa in there would have easily made it more usable. We used it for only unpacking and packing our cases and it reminded us our entire stay of the bath tub and spa we were sorely missing. As we explored the room some more, it became obvious the room was pure style over function. There was no fridge in the room. A card left on the desk stated we had to ask for one. So we ended up with this black dented and scratched mini fridge being brought in and left on the floor next to the tv, just plugged into wall. Next we looked for storage for our clothes, very little. Don't get me wrong, the closet had plenty of hangers, but there was only one usable drawer in the main room. The bed side cabinet drawers were only 2-3 inches deep, and not enough space overall for a few nights stay and to get organized. Next the mirrors. Not a single one in the main room. Usually one in the hallway right? maybe above the desk? Nope, not here. The only floor to ceiling mirror was in the bathroom, in an awkward position in the corner next to the toilet and about only 8 inches wide, not user friendly. Speaking of the bathroom, it was genuinely nice and well maintained. The shower was great and the addition of the adjustable lighted face mirror was appreciated, but there was only one hook in there. Literally, one hook, next to the shower door, where you could hang just one robe or towel. The only towel rack was in the toilet area above the toilet, not anywhere near the shower, but also not high enough above the toilet, so unless you triple folded it, your towel would drape along the top of the tank and get in the way of the flusher. The rack was barely wide enough to get 2 towels on and no where else to hang them. There was nowhere for a hand towel to hang or dry either. It was just not practical. Don't get me wrong, the room was modern and clean, but if you are staying longer than a couple of days, youight not feel very at home.

It took me days to book a hotel for my husbands Father’s Day trip. I was looking for a family friendly hotel that was upscale but not too expensive and in a good location. I am so glad I selected the Intercontinental at the Wharf. The hotel is very clean and the rooms were a nice size. The rooftop pool was very nice with a great view. Also, this is probably the best customer service I’ve ever received at a hotel. All of the employees were so kind and just seemed happy to be there! Housekeeping was on time every day and did a great job cleaning the room. This is now one of my go to spots in DC!

My stay at the Intercontinental on Father’s Day weekend was amazing thanks to Isabelle. I stayed at this property exactly 2 weeks ago and had an experience that was subpar and didn't really met my expectations as a Diamond Elite Member. I voiced my frustration with inconsistencies at the property and Isabelle went out of her way to personally contact me, apologize for my previous experience and ensured my next stay would be nothing but the best. I took her up on the offer and booked another stay. She delivered 100% from check-in to check-out, ensuring my stay was great. I received a complimentary upgraded room with a charcuterie board and a bottle of champagne which was surprising. Isabelle overall service reflects what many would associated with an Intercontinental property. If you’re in town, definitely consider staying at this property and ask as many questions as you need to in order to get the answers you deserve. Rooms are always clean and the staff is very helpful. This is my 6th stay at this property within the last year and a half.
